The hire rules for Capri, in plain words. They form part of the Terms and conditions.
Who can drive
- You must be 18 or older to hire or drive the vessel, and show photo ID (driver licence or passport).
- Only drivers nominated before the hire may drive.
- No boat licence is needed. Unlicensed drivers do a 30-minute practical induction before the hire; licensed drivers get a free safety briefing.
- A 0.05 blood alcohol limit applies to the driver. Don’t drink and drive.
Before you leave
- Arrive 10 minutes before your booking so the briefing starts on time. Waiting time for the instructor is $1 per minute.
- Watch the induction video before the day (link in your confirmation).
- Tell us in advance if children are coming so the right lifejacket sizes are on board.
- Check the vessel and report anything missing or damaged before you cast off.
- Tell someone your plans and when you expect to be back.
On the water
- Obey all instructions, NSW Maritime regulations and our navigation limits. The hire area runs from Gladesville Bridge to Bradleys Head and Point Piper; Circular Quay, Woolloomooloo Bay and the major ferry terminals are excluded.
- Daylight hours only — the vessel is licensed for daylight hire.
- Keep the waterways clean: use the bin provided. Nothing goes overboard.
- Do not drive the vessel onto rocky areas, beaches or ramps.
- Maximum 8 people on board, including children.
- Report any incident immediately by text to 0414 260 078.
Not allowed
Capri is a clean, quiet boat by design. The following are not permitted.
- No towing of people, boogie boards, tubes or anything else.
- No smoking — there is fuel on board.
- No BBQ and no fishing (bait smells outlast any clean).
- No shoes on deck — leave them at the wharf.
- No glitter, confetti or loose balloons.
- No night-time hire.
Children
- Children under 12 must wear a lifejacket at all times, on deck and in the water.
- On enclosed waters, Type 1, 2 or 3 lifejackets apply. We carry baby and child sizes.
- Every child counts toward the maximum of 8 people.
Money matters
- Bond: $200. Insurance excess: $1,000, payable by the hirer in the event of an accident.
- Late returns are billed at twice the hire rate.
- Rescue call-out: no less than $100 plus costs.
- Extra hours: $100 each, added when the boat is free.
Weather
If we deem conditions unsafe on the morning of the hire, we call it off and you reschedule for free or take a full refund. Full details are on the Weather policy page.
